Earned not given

In an attempt to unspoil our lovely children who believed every time we entered a store they would get something, Sean & I decided the kids could do chores to earn rewards. The first attempt included simple tasks like picking up toys, being ready on time, brushing their own teeth, and taking care of their dirty clothes. We didn't want to have to rub to the store every day to buy a new toy so we set the goals high but totally reachable.

After earning 10 stars they got a special treat which happened to be while Nana's was here so they got ice cream when we were at Seaport Village. The next step was a special trip after earning 20 stars. For this reward we spent 9 hours at the World Famous San Diego Zoo seeing everything they asked for! And the culmination of the chore chart was a new toy earned at 30 stars.

Logan has had his eye on the Play Dough Mega Fun Factory for MONTHS! He has spent hours watching the same YouTube videos of this toy and finally he has it! He loves it!!

Peyton is still not to the age where she gets her mind set on something. So when we went shopping she & I hit the princess aisle! We found this Tangled Doll Tower and she is in love, it even goes to bed with her and sits on her foot board!

Although the chore chart took over a month to complete the kids are definitely learning that things are earned not just given. And momma is thankful for the extra help they are giving!
